Our goal is to ensure that you have a healthy and stress-free pregnancy and that you receive the highest standard of care throughout your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period.
We believe in providing normal delivery as it has significant effect on the short and long term health of the mother and the baby. Our vaginal delivery rates for first time mothers are between 85-90%. We, WMN doctors, have a strong conviction to promote practices to produce the best progeny.
In the recent past, there has been a rising trend in CS rates. Should we worry about that? As per the WHO, the ideal rate of cesarean sections beyond which there appears to be no benefit to either mother or fetus is considered to be between 10% and 15%. Despite this, the alarming rise in cesarean rates is cause for concern. There are many reasons for such a rise, but a recent one has been “on-demand cesarean sections” or “cesarean sections on maternal request” as a new indication for various social or personal reasons in our country. From a patient’s point of view, they have this myth dwelling in their minds that they don’t have to go through a lot of pain and that it is considered an easy option, which isn’t the case. People are becoming more and more dependent on horoscopes, where they have a specific date and time for the child’s birth. They also tend to believe that it is safe for infants. Another point is that people prefer a particular doctor and a hospital because they care for the ambience and the doctor. Unfortunately, they don’t realize that a specialist cannot be available with the same efficiency 24/7 unless they programme the delivery or there can be an increase in Cesarean sections.
“From a doctor’s perspective, the reason why Cesarean sections are going up is that, as a doctor, you don’t have to wait.” If they don’t interfere with nature, each labor takes about 12-16 hours. Problems include the availability of anesthesiologists and monitoring of the baby and the mother. Medically and legally, C-sections are less common compared to vaginal deliveries because people think that something ultimate has been done, although it is the other way around.
There is no evidence to show any benefit to either the mother or the infant when the procedure is not medically indicated. On the other hand, there is also a high chance of associated short- and long-term risks, which can extend many years beyond the index delivery and affect the health of the woman, her child, and future pregnancies.

Advantages of a vaginal delivery

It is a natural process. Normal delivery in Bangalore is safer than CS, with lesser bleeding and complications, and ensures faster recovery. Also, there is a lower risk of problems in the next pregnancy. The only immediate issues are increased perineal pain and a higher risk of vaginal tears and urinary incontinence, both of which are temporary. We at WMN Doctors, have the best gynecologist team in Bangalore for helping you achieve normal delivery.

Problems for the mother with Section

In the short term, it is associated with increased rates of anesthetic risks, infection, bleeding, the need for hysterectomy, organ injury, and the development of clots in the legs and lungs. There is also an increase in re-hospitalization after cesarean sections compared to that after vaginal deliveries.
In terms of future problems, subfertility and increased pregnancy complications have been noted for the next pregnancy. Women who had a section were 17 per cent more likely to have a miscarriage if they decided to become pregnant after the surgery and 27 per cent more likely to experience a stillbirth. Also, previous cesarean sections increase the risk of multiple placental abnormalities. Adhesions can happen in 25% of second cesareans. This can also complicate later gynecological surgeries. There is also an increase in chronic abdominal pain symptoms, with 20% having pain 3 months after a cesarean and 12% having pain 12 months after a cesarean.

Problems for the baby

In the short term, the most common problems are respiratory, typically transient breathing problems that may need observation or admission to the NICU. Complications are also increased in subsequent pregnancies after previous cesarean deliveries. Most of this is because of preterm delivery associated with placental and labor complications, which happen in women with previous sections.
In the long term, there is a greater prevalence of obesity, allergies, and metabolic syndrome. A possible link has been suggested between cesarean delivery and the risk of childhood-onset type 1 diabetes. Some studies have also suggested that cesarean-born children perform significantly below vaginally-born children, by up to a tenth of a standard deviation in national numeracy test scores at ages 8–9. This suggests a possible link to cognitive development. The reduced exposure to mechanical forces and stress hormones during labor is purported to be the cause of many long-term issues.
The baby passing through the birth canal is extremely vital for the gut’s programming. The gut microbiomes get programmed, and this is probably why nature takes time to pass through one foot of the bony canal. Most people are unaware that this programming accounts for 80% of an individual’s immunity. As the gut is the second brain, while it is being programmed, the neurotransmitters communicate with the brain, which affects intelligence, behavior, etc. It is very important to know that a baby traversing through the pelvis will be physically and mentally healthy. Unfortunately, if this is surpassed, one cannot compensate for it by any other means.
