  • We train candidates for MRCOG-both direct -as a primary postgraduate degree after the completion of under graduation for those trainees who wish to specialise in O&G as well as a supplementary degree for those who are already pursuing or finished her postgraduation in OBG.
  • We conduct regular classes for MRCOG part 1,2 and part 3 exams.
  • Through the BRCOG trust, we also conduct Part 3 courses with international faculty.
  • At WMN, we follow evidence-based medicine. This protocol driven care adapted and adopted from the RCOG guidelines helps candidates in having a structured approach to management and is helpful for the MRCOG exams.
  • Many WMN Faculty are MRCOG, FRCOG, and CCT holders from UK with vast experience in UK and India.
  • They are also examiners for the MRCOG exams-Part 3.
  • We have two DNB trainees every year-one primary and secondary candidate.
  • At WMN, we follow evidence-based medicine. This protocol driven care helps candidates in having a structured approach to management of obstetric and gynaecological conditions.

  • We have regular teaching sessions for the trainees. We also ensure trainees receive hands on experience and improve their skills through our collaboration with public hospitals around the south Bangalore area (BBMP hospitals).
  • We encourage trainees to participate in research and audit projects and ably supervise them in their dissertation projects.

Teaching Programme:

  • Practical training and regular teaching sessions
  • We offer two Eighteen-month fellowship programmes accredited by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka- Fellowship in Foeto-Maternal medicine and Fellowship in High-Risk Pregnancy.
  • Fellowship in Foeto-Maternal medicine-The candidates who successfully complete the eighteen-month full-time programme shall be awarded a Certificate as a Fellow in Foeto-Maternal medicine.
  • Fellowship in High-Risk Pregnancy-The candidates who successfully complete the eighteen-month full-time programme shall be awarded a Certificate as a Fellow in High risk pregnancy.

We take two fellows every year.

 

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process:

  • Candidates with MS/MD/DNB in Obs and Gyn/MRCOG and has obtained permanent registration of any State Medical Council shall be eligible for admission.
  • Candidates with DGO in Obs and Gyn and has obtained permanent registration of any State Medical Council shall be eligible for admission will also be considered.

Admission is usually in the month of August.

Course commences September every year.

The candidates will be selected based on merit and aptitude.

Admission process- Written test and interview

All candidates would appear for the University examination after completion of the eighteen months course -Theory and practical.

 

Aims and Objectives:

  • To promote the specialist management of pregnancies with complex medical/ obstetric problems and hence improve maternal and fetal outcomes.
  • Improve current standards of management of High-Risk pregnancies & provide standardized patient care.
  • Improve knowledge and practice in the management of common maternal diseases during pregnancy.
  • Provide pre-pregnancy, antepartum and intrapartum care & counselling of the high-risk obstetric case.
  • Provide expert diagnosis & knowledge of mainstream obstetric practice.
  • Establish a close understanding & working relationship with other disciplines and promote the concept of multidisciplinary team care.
  • Promote teaching and research into maternal conditions in pregnancy.
  • Promote the development of specialized expertise, special facilities and clinical material that will be of considerable benefit to patients.

 

Structured Training With Logbook : 

The trainee will be able to demonstrate thorough Knowledge of

  • Basic sciences relevant to Maternal medical conditions and foetal development
  • Pathophysiology, methods of evaluation and treatment of the maternal disorders and pregnancy complications -including those which predate the pregnancy and those which are diagnosed during pregnancy. Understanding foetal development and complications like aneuploidies, structural anomalies.
  • Ability to liaise with other professionals to plan management of less common conditions.
  • Concepts of investigative science and the development of skills in research methods.
  • Methods of quality assurance and audit.

Pregnancy Conditions/Problems:

  • Preterm labour
  • Prelabour rupture of membranes
  • Incompetent cervix
  • Mullerian abnormalities

  • Prior or current feto-maternal alloimmune thrombocytopenia
  • Prior second trimester loss
  • Previous intrauterine fetal demise
  • Infections – HIV, hepatitis, Malaria, Syphilis, Chicken pox
  • Management of malpresentations

 

Foetal Medicine:

  • Genetic counselling
  • Counselling about screening- First/ second trimester
  • Dealing with congenital abnormalities detected during pregnancy.
  • Dealing with multiple pregnancy- counselling and management of complications
  • Dealing with disorders of amniotic fluid
  • Management and follow up of IUGR.
  • Interpretation of dopplers

 

Labour ward:

  • Labour ward skills-Training in operative vaginal delivery/intrapartum management of complex scenarios Management of obstetric emergencies.
  • Research activity-1 paper and 1poster (Mandatory by RGUHS)
